A lock-in challenge is a commitment device. You pick a set of daily rules and a fixed duration, then execute every single day without exception. No negotiations, no "I'll make up for it tomorrow." You either locked in or you didn't.
The psychology is simple: when you remove decision-making from the equation, you free up mental energy that would otherwise be wasted on deliberation. Each day becomes binary -- did you do all your rules or not? This clarity is what makes the challenge sustainable.
Studies on habit formation from the European Journal of Social Psychology show that it takes an average of 66 days for a new behavior to become automatic, but even shorter commitments of 21-30 days create measurable neural pathway changes. The key factor is not duration but consistency -- unbroken daily repetition.
The filling padlock represents your identity shift. Each completed day adds weight to your new self-image. By the time the lock is full, the rules are no longer something you do -- they are part of who you are. That is what locking in really means.
Thirty days is long enough to change something and short enough to finish. Pick the length, then hold it.
Name what you are cutting and what takes its place. Boredom is the price. Attention is what you buy with it.
Build the first hour on paper, minute by minute. A morning you decided last night is a morning you already own.
Unbroken locks the length at Day 1 and links a witness to your run. In Linked Fate mode, their miss restarts you too.
